1 driver dead, 1 injured after pickup and dump truck crash on SR-47

BOONE COUNTY, IN - One driver was killed and another injured when their vehicles collided in Boone County on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

According to a Facebook post by the Boone County Sheriff's Office, a pickup truck and a dump truck crashed in the 3000 block of State Road 47 East shortly before 2:00 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies and first responders arrived to find a 2008 Chevy Silverado in the roadway with significant damage. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Kyle Smith of Kirklin, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dump truck overturned in the accident. The driver, 61-year-old Scott Pickett of Lafayette, Indiana, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Fatal Alcohol Crash Team is investigating the wreck.
