1 dead in wrong-way, head-on collision on I-25 near Santa Fe

SANTA FE, NM - New Mexico State Police said a driver was killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 25 early Saturday morning.

According to an NMSP Facebook post, State Police were dispatched to I-25 south of Santa Fe at milepost 283 at about 1 a.m. following a report of a wrong-way driver.

A car was reported to be going south in the northbound lane of the interstate.   As officers were responding to the area, the car, a 2014 Nissan, collided with a 2007 GMC pickup truck.
 
The Nissan driver, identified as 25-year-old Albert Austin James Titla of Santa Fe, died at the scene.  The GMC driver, a 39-year-old man, was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
 
State Police are investigating the cause of the wreck and have yet to determine whether alcohol was a contributing factor.
