TORRANCE COUNTY, NM - One person was killed and another injured in a multi-vehicle accident that snarled traffic on Interstate 40 in Torrance County, according to a report by KOAT.
The crash took place Sunday on I-40 westbound between mile markers 233 and 234. The Torrance County Sheriff's Office said a semi-truck rear-eneded a vehicle that was stopped on I-40 west. The impact pushed the vehicle under another semi-truck that was stopped.
A passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the vehicle was airlifted to the University of New Mexico Hospital. No information was released on the person's condition.
Traffic on I-40 in the area was shut down for about six hours while authorities investigated and cleared the accident scene.
