1 boy killed, 1 injured after vehicle hit bicycles in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, IN - One boy was killed and another injured after being struck by a vehicle while riding their bicycles in Elkhart County Tuesday morning, WBND reported.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene on County Road 4 near County Road 29 after the accident occurred at about 7:50 a.m.

Sheriff's deputies said the two boys, ages 13 and 7, were riding their bikes when they struck by an eastbound 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 31-year-old Daisy Velazquez of Elkhart.

The 7-year-old was pronounced dead after being rushed to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.  The 13-year-old sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to Memorial Hospital.  Both were from Bristol.

The sheriff's office is continuing to investigate the collision, and so far no citations have been issued.  Authorities said drivers going east were dealing with sun glare at the time of the incident.
