Driver critically injured in collision in Beech Grove

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Beech Grove police responded to a collision on Churchman Avenue on Sunday afternoon, WTHR reports.

Officers arrived at the scene near East Raymond Street at about 1:30 p.m.  They determined that a driver going northwest on Churchman Avenue crashed into a car that was exiting Royal Road.

The first car also hit a telephone pole which then collapsed onto it, and a live wire caused the vehicle to catch fire.  The driver of that car was taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Police said the other driver was not injured in the wreck and did not show signs of impairment.

Churchman Avenue was shut down for several hours while police and emergency crews responded.
